AUTISM SPECTRUM DISORDER

Helping children, teens, and adults on the autism spectrum build connection, communication skill, and confidence.

What Is Autism Spectrum Disorder?

Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) is a neurodevelopmental condition characterized by a range of challenges in social interaction, communication, and repetitive behaviors or restricted interests. The term "spectrum" reflects the wide variety of symptoms and their severity, which can vary greatly among individuals.

 Key features of ASD include:

  • Social Communication Challenges: Difficulty understanding social cues and norms. Limited eye contact and difficulties in making or maintaining friendships. Challenges with verbal and non-verbal communication, including understanding sarcasm and tone.
  • Restricted and Repetitive Behaviors: Engaging in repetitive movements or speech (e.g., hand-flapping, echolalia). Intense focus on specific interests or topics, often to the exclusion of other activities. Resistance to changes in routine or environment.
  • Sensory Sensitivities: Many individuals with ASD may have heightened or reduced sensitivity to sensory input, such as sounds, lights, textures, and other stimuli.

For individuals with ASD, these features can affect how they learn, how they relate to others, how they interpret their environment, and how they express themselves. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, ASD is a developmental disability caused by differences in the brain

Our Autism Empowerment Program

Our Autism Empowerment Program is designed to address the foundational building blocks essential for neurodevelopment. We prioritize reflex integration, sensory processing, sensory profiles, gross and fine motor skills, and communication development. For individuals who are nonverbal, we utilize nonverbal communication protocols. Our program has successfully supported many individuals on the autism spectrum in achieving beyond what was anticipated. Participants have learned to communicate effectively, express their needs, and fully engage in their learning and self-expression.

  • Reflex Integration & Movement – to build foundational brain-body communication
  • Sensory Processing & Sensory Profile Work – individualized mapping and support
  • Gross & Fine Motor Skills Development – movement patterns that underpin daily function
  • Communication & Expression Coaching – verbal and non-verbal methods tailored to the individual
