ANXIETY

Helping children, teens, and adults overcome persistent worry

and nervous system overload.

What Is Anxiety?

Anxiety is a natural emotional response to stress or perceived threats, characterized by feelings of worry, fear, or apprehension.

While everyone experiences anxiety in some form at various times, anxiety disorders involve excessive and persistent worry or fear that affects daily life.

Common features include:

  • Physical Symptoms: Rapid heartbeat, sweating, trembling, fatigue, muscle tension, difficulty sleeping.
  • Cognitive Symptoms: Racing thoughts, excessive worry about potential dangers, difficulties concentrating, restlessness.
  • Behavioral Symptoms: Avoidance behaviors, steering clear of situations that trigger anxiety, limiting daily activities and social interactions.

Anxiety disorders include a range of conditions:

  • Generalized Anxiety Disorder (GAD): Excessive worry about various aspects of life such as health, work or social interactions.
  • Panic Disorder: Recurrent panic attacks — sudden episodes of intense fear accompanied by physical symptoms.
  • Social Anxiety Disorder: Intense fear of social situations, leading to avoidance.
  • Specific Phobias: Intense, irrational fears of specific objects or situations (e.g., heights, spiders).

What’s Behind Anxiety?

At The Frida Method® we view anxiety as a broad response to stress, activated by various alarm systems in the brain and body including the HPA axis, autonomic nervous system, and fight/flight/freeze responses. Anxiety often stems from deep-rooted, unconscious reactions.

Key Contributing Factors

  • Nervous system dysregulation: Over-sensitive alarm systems reduce the capacity to self-regulate.
  • Sensory-motor or reflex immaturities: The brain-body connection is less efficient in dealing with stress.
  • Environmental & developmental stressors: Transitions, trauma, or overload add burden to regulation systems.

Our Approach to Anxiety

We emphasize rebuilding the nervous system at its core. We focus on developing new skills through sensory-informed communication to effectively address physiological responses and ultimately help individuals overcome anxiety.

  • Comprehensive Assessment & Personalized Plan – We evaluate nervous system, reflexes, and sensory-motor baseline.
  • Manual Therapy & Movement – Gentle manual work and guided movement to retrain foundational systems.
  • Sensory-Motor & Emotional Integration – We connect sensory, motor, and emotional regulation to build resilience.
  • Lifestyle & Coaching Support – We integrate home routines, family involvement, and coaching for sustainable change.

Note: Support for children, teens, and adults; works with existing treatments or medication.
